A downstream IC with an absolute max of 200V needs a look at whether the 243V ceiling leaves enough margin, especially if the source impedance is low and the clamped current climbs toward the 6.2A rating.
Peak pulse power and thermal margin
1.5kW peak pulse rating (1.5SMC series) is the 10/1000 µs waveform spec — the diode absorbs the energy of a 1.5kW transient without transitioning to thermal runaway. Multiple strikes at rated pulse width compress the effective energy budget, so a design that sees repetitive transients should derate the peak pulse rating or move up to a higher-power SMC series.
DO-214AB SMC footprint and assembly
SMC (DO-214AB) is a common TVS package footprint — the cathode bar on the body matches the standard polarity marking. Surface-mount reflow profile follows standard lead-free assembly; the bulk-glass Zener die inside tolerates the typical 260°C peak reflow. Tape-and-reel and cut-tape options cover production run and prototype quantities respectively. Verify pad layout against the landed dimension drawing — the SMC pad spacing is wider than the smaller SMA and SMB packages in the same series family, so a footprint for an SMB does not accept an SMC without rework.
General-purpose application rating means no unique customer qualifications to screen, but as with any SMC-packaged TVS, confirm the date code window acceptable for the target deployment — shelf life of the component is long but moisture-sensitivity of the package can drive a bake requirement if the reel has been open for extended time.
