Triac opto for direct mains switching
The MOC3023VM is a 1-channel triac-output optoisolator from onsemi, rated for 4170Vrms isolation and 400 V off-state voltage. The non-zero-crossing output means it triggers immediately on the LED pulse — no delay waiting for the AC zero — which makes it a fit for phase-control dimmers, solid-state relays, and soft-start circuits where you need to fire the triac at any point in the cycle.
Trigger current and drive margin
Forward voltage is 1.15V typ, and the LED can handle up to 60 mA continuous, giving plenty of headroom for derating over temperature. The hold current is 100 µA typ, which keeps the triac latched once fired on a low-current load.
Housed in a 6-DIP through-hole package with 0.300-inch pin spacing, the MOC3023VM is breadboard- and perfboard-friendly — easy to hand-solder and probe. Supplied in tube.
onsemi MOC3023VM is an active, RoHS3-compliant part. No stock-holding claim; availability confirmed at quote time.
