Triac driver for line-voltage loads without zero-cross delay
The MOC3023SR2M is a 1-channel triac-output optoisolator from onsemi with a 4170 Vrms isolation rating and a 400 V off-state voltage capability. The non-zero-crossing output means the internal triac fires immediately when the LED is pulsed — no wait for the next AC zero crossing. This makes it the right choice for phase-control dimming, random-turn-on switching, or any load where you need to start conducting mid-cycle.
LED drive margin and trigger current
A 3.3 V logic output driving through a 390 Ω series resistor delivers about 5.5 mA — enough to guarantee turn-on across temperature. The maximum continuous LED current is 60 mA, so there is headroom for higher drive if the MCU port can source it, but the 5 mA threshold is the design target.
The 6-SMD gull-wing package with surface-mount mounting keeps assembly compatible with standard reflow profiles.
