Logic function and input conditioning
The MM74HC132MTC is a quad 2-input NAND gate from the 74HC family, with Schmitt trigger inputs on all four gates. The Schmitt trigger provides hysteresis on the input thresholds — low-level is 0.3V to 1.2V and high-level is 1.5V to 4.2V across the 2V to 6V supply range — which cleans up noisy or slowly transitioning signals before the gate switches. This makes it a direct fit for debouncing switch contacts, squaring off oscillator waveforms, or receiving signals over long PCB traces where edge rates degrade. The 21ns propagation delay at 6V with a 50pF load sets the speed ceiling for the signal chain.
Supply, temperature, and power budget
The quiescent current is 2µA max — negligible in a battery-powered design where the gate sits idle most of the time. Output current is 5.2mA for both high and low states — enough to drive one or two standard CMOS inputs but not a LED or relay directly. The 14-TSSOP package (4.40mm body width) is a common footprint for dense board layouts.
