High-speed digital isolation in a DIP package
The HCPL2601 is a single-channel optoisolator from onsemi rated for 10 Mbps data rate, making it suitable for isolating high-speed digital signals such as those in fieldbus interfaces, PLC I/O modules, and motor-drive feedback paths. Its open collector output with 50 mA per channel drive directly interfaces with TTL/CMOS logic without external pull-up selection — the pull-up resistor value sets the switching threshold. The 2500 Vrms isolation and 5 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity mean this part holds up in noisy industrial environments where ground loops and fast-switching transients would corrupt a non-isolated buffer.
Sourcing an obsolete part — what to expect
onsemi lists the HCPL2601 as Obsolete. For an obsolete 8-DIP optoisolator, remaining stock is finite. We source available inventory from our multi-supplier network — confirm your BOM quantity and target date code window at quote time. If the HCPL2601 is no longer available, a parametric fit in the same speed and isolation class (10 Mbps, 2500 Vrms, open collector) can be identified. The base product number HCPL26 shares the same footprint with other speed grades.
Temperature range and supply rail
The 4.5V to 5.5V supply ties directly to a 5V rail, common in PLC and control systems. The 8-DIP (0.300-inch, 7.62 mm) through-hole package is breadboard-friendly and solderable by hand, but the 50 ns rise / 12 ns fall times mean layout capacitance on the output trace should be kept low to preserve signal edges.
