The onsemi HCPL062NR2 is a dual-channel optocoupler rated for 10 Mbps data throughput with 2500 Vrms isolation between input and output — sufficient for breaking ground loops in industrial fieldbus interfaces, PLC digital I/O modules, and motor-drive feedback paths where the common-mode voltage can swing faster than the data rate. Both input channels are on side 1 (2/0 configuration), meaning the two LEDs share a common cathode or anode arrangement — the output side provides two independent open-collector transistors with a 15 mA per-channel sink capability.
Switching speed and transient immunity for noisy environments
Propagation delay is 90 ns max for low-to-high and 75 ns max for high-to-low transitions, with a 16 ns typical rise time and 4 ns fall time — the asymmetric fall is faster because the open-collector output pulls down actively while the pull-up relies on an external resistor and the output capacitance. Common-mode transient immunity is rated at 25 kV/µs minimum, which means the output does not glitch when the ground reference between the two sides shifts at that slew rate — critical in motor-drive applications where the inverter switching edges couple through parasitic capacitance into the control signals.
Supply rail and input drive requirements
Input LED forward voltage is 1.75 V typical (1.75 V max) with a maximum continuous forward current of 50 mA — the 15 mA output sink current is well within the LED drive capability, but the forward voltage drop means the input side needs at least a 2 V drive rail to guarantee the LED turns on across temperature.
