Single-channel optocoupler for signal isolation
The HCPL0500V is a single-channel optocoupler from onsemi with a DC input and a transistor-with-base output, housed in an 8-SOIC surface-mount package. It provides 2500Vrms galvanic isolation between input and output, suitable for breaking ground loops in industrial control interfaces, PLC digital inputs, and motor-drive feedback paths.
Switching speed and current transfer ratio
Typical turn-on time is 450ns and turn-off time 500ns, allowing the part to couple logic-level signals up to about 1 MHz without excessive pulse-width distortion. The current transfer ratio (CTR) is specified at 7% minimum and 50% maximum when the forward diode is driven at 16 mA, which means the output transistor can sink up to 8 mA at a collector voltage of 20 V maximum.
Package and temperature range for industrial use
The 8-SOIC package (0.154-inch body width, 3.90 mm) is a standard footprint shared with many logic-output optocouplers.
