1 Mbit/s isolation channel — CTR and switching speed
The HCPL0500R2V is a single-channel high-speed optoisolator from onsemi rated for 1 Mbit/s data transmission across a 2500 Vrms galvanic isolation barrier. Current transfer ratio spans 7% to 50% at 16 mA forward current — the wide min-to-max spread means the receiver-side pull-up and threshold must be designed for the low end to guarantee logic-level switching across all units and temperatures. Typical turn-on time is 450 ns and turn-off is 500 ns, which together set the practical bit-period floor at roughly 1 µs for a 50% duty-cycle signal — adequate for industrial fieldbus interfaces like RS-485 isolation or PLC digital input channels.
8-SOIC package and board-fit
Housed in the standard 8-SOIC narrow-body package (3.90 mm body width, 0.154-inch pitch), the HCPL0500R2V shares the same footprint as the industry-wide HCPL-0500 series — a drop-in replacement for existing layouts using the common 8-SOIC optocoupler land pattern. Surface-mount assembly with tape-and-reel or cut-tape packaging options; the 8-SOIC package is compatible with standard reflow profiles and does not require a moisture-sensitive-device bake if handled within the floor-life limits printed on the reel label.
