4170Vrms isolation with a 100-300% CTR window
The H11AV1AVM is a 1-channel optoisolator from onsemi in the standard 6-DIP through-hole package. Its 4170Vrms isolation rating covers the basic insulation requirements for mains-referenced circuits in industrial control, motor drives, and power supplies — enough to separate the low-voltage control side from a 240 VAC or 400 VDC bus with margin. The current transfer ratio is specified as a min of 100% and a max of 300%, both at If=10 mA. That 3:1 spread means the output transistor's drive capability varies by lot — a design that works at the 100% floor will saturate the output at 300% with the same input current, so the load resistor must be sized for the minimum CTR to guarantee the output switches on across all production units.
Switching speed and output voltage ceiling
Turn-on and turn-off times are both 15 µs typical, 15 µs max — a symmetrical 30 µs total propagation delay. That limits the usable data rate to roughly 33 kHz in a saturated-switch application; for higher-speed isolation, a logic-output optocoupler would be the better fit. The output transistor is rated for 70 V collector-emitter maximum, with a Vce(sat) of 400 mV at the specified drive condition. The 70 V ceiling suits 24 V and 48 V logic rails, and the low saturation voltage keeps the power dissipation in the output stage manageable at moderate collector currents. Forward voltage is 1.18 V typical at If=10 mA, with an absolute maximum forward current of 60 mA. The DC input type means the LED is driven with a steady current — no AC line coupling without an external bridge rectifier.
