5000Vrms isolation for motor-drive gate drive
The FOD3125SD from onsemi is a single-channel gate drive optocoupler in the OPTOPLANAR® series, built for driving IGBTs and MOSFETs in motor drives, inverters, and industrial power supplies. Its 5000Vrms isolation covers reinforced insulation requirements for mains-connected equipment, while the 3A peak output current directly drives medium-power gates without an external buffer stage.
Active production, surface-mount package
It ships in Tape & Reel or Cut Tape in an 8-SMD Gull Wing package for surface-mount assembly. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 125°C, covering industrial and outdoor enclosures. ROHS3 compliant.
Supply rail and forward current limits
The output supply voltage range is 15V to 30V, which matches typical IGBT gate drive rails (15V on, -5V to -8V off). The high/low output current is 2A each — enough for gate charges up to several microcoulombs. The LED forward voltage is 1.5V typical, with a maximum forward current of 25 mA. Keep the LED drive current within that limit to avoid degrading the optical coupling over time.
