The FOD0721R2 is a single-channel, logic-gate optoisolator from onsemi that delivers a 25Mbps data rate with a push-pull, totem-pole output — a combination that suits isolating high-speed digital signals like SPI, UART, or CAN transceiver interfaces across a 3750Vrms isolation barrier. The 20kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) means this part holds its output state when a fast voltage transient slams across the isolation gap — a spec that matters in motor-drive or inverter stages where the switching node swings hundreds of volts in nanoseconds.
Propagation delay and rise/fall timing for bus margin
Maximum propagation delay is 40ns in both directions (tpLH and tpHL), with typical rise and fall times of 5ns and 4.5ns respectively — tight enough to keep the timing budget intact for a 25Mbps data stream across one or two daisy-chained isolators. Supply voltage range is 4.5V to 5.5V, so it runs cleanly on a 5V rail; the logic input is compatible with 5V CMOS or TTL levels, and the push-pull output can source or sink 10mA per channel.
