4170Vrms isolation with binned CTR
The onsemi CNY17F4SVM is a single-channel transistor-output optocoupler in a 6-SMD gull wing package, rated for 4170Vrms isolation between input and output. That isolation voltage suits it for breaking ground loops and protecting low-voltage logic from transient spikes on the field side in industrial control and power supply feedback paths. Current transfer ratio is binned to 160-320% at 10mA forward current — a tighter window than the broad 100-600% of the base CNY17 family. This means the output transistor's drive strength is predictable across temperature and lot, which simplifies the resistor sizing in the detector circuit and keeps the logic threshold consistent.
Switching speed and output drive
Turn-on time is 2µs typical, turn-off 3µs typical, with rise/fall times of 4µs and 3.5µs max respectively. These numbers place it in the medium-speed class — adequate for 50/60Hz line sensing, relay driver isolation, and PLC digital input modules, but not for high-speed serial isolation above a few tens of kHz. The output transistor can handle up to 70V Vce and 50mA continuous collector current, with a saturation voltage of 400mV max at the rated drive. That 70V ceiling covers 24V and 48V industrial rails with margin; the 50mA output directly drives a logic gate input or a small relay coil without a buffer transistor.
Surface-mount package and temperature grade
Housed in a 6-SMD gull wing package (supplier device package 6-SMD), it reflows onto the same footprint as the standard DIP-6 gull wing optocouplers. Forward voltage is 1.35V typical at 10mA, with an absolute maximum forward current of 60mA. The DC input type means it works with a simple series resistor from a logic rail or a microcontroller GPIO — no AC coupling or bridge rectifier needed on the input side.
Active production and sourcing
The base product number is CNY17F4, and the 'SVM' suffix denotes the gull-wing surface-mount package in bulk tube packaging.
