Isolation and signal integrity for industrial interfaces
The CNY171SR2M: Output is a phototransistor with base access, rated for 70 V collector-emitter and 50 mA continuous current, so it can drive a relay coil or a logic gate directly without a buffer stage.
Turn-on and turn-off times are 2 µs and 3 µs typical, with rise and fall times of 4 µs and 3.5 µs max — fast enough for 10 kHz serial data or PWM feedback from a motor encoder without pulse-width distortion. Forward voltage is 1.35 V typical at 10 mA, and the LED can handle up to 60 mA DC peak — so a 24 V supply with a 2.2 kΩ series resistor delivers the 10 mA test current comfortably.
Package and PCB fit
Housed in a 6-SMD Gull Wing package (6-SMD supplier device package), the CNY171SR2M sits flat on the board surface — the gull-wing leads self-centre during reflow and allow visual inspection of the solder joints.
