Single-channel optoisolator with Darlington base access
The onsemi 6N138S is a single-channel optoisolator in an 8-SMD Gull Wing package, delivering 2500Vrms galvanic isolation between a DC input LED and a Darlington transistor with base pin access. Minimum current transfer ratio of 300% at 1.6 mA forward current means the output can drive a logic input or relay coil from a low-power microcontroller GPIO without an external buffer. Typical turn-on time of 1.5 µs and turn-off time of 7 µs suit it for isolating digital signals up to low-speed communications, such as 10 kbps serial links or PLC discrete inputs.
Industrial temperature range and surface-mount footprint
The 8-SMD Gull Wing package (supplier device package 8-SMD) is a standard surface-mount footprint for optoisolators, reflow-solderable with a typical MSL profile. Output can sink up to 60 mA continuous, and the base pin allows external pull-up or speed-up networks to tailor the switching threshold.
