24 V PNP slot sensor with selectable output logic
The Omron EE-SX954P-R 1M is an amplified through-beam photoelectric sensor from the EE-SX95 series, built for presence detection in automated machinery. It operates on a 24 VDC supply and delivers a PNP output that can be switched between Dark-ON and Light-ON operation via a selector. The 0.197 mm sensing slot width is sized for edge detection on encoder wheels, flag interrupters, or small-part pass-through sensing on pick-and-place feeders and conveyor gates. The 1 m cable terminates to bare leads for direct termination inside a control cabinet or junction box.
Wiring the Dark-ON / Light-ON selector
The selectable output logic means one wire sets the active state. In Dark-ON mode the PNP output pulls high when the beam is blocked; in Light-ON mode it pulls high when the beam is clear. This is set by connecting the select line to either the supply rail or ground — the datasheet wiring diagram shows the exact pin. For a 24 V PLC input, wire the PNP output to the sinking input card; no level shifter needed. The switching current is rated at 0.05 A, sufficient for a single PLC input or a small relay coil.
Temperature range and environment
Rated for -25°C to 55°C operating ambient, this sensor is suited for indoor industrial environments — factory floors, packaging lines, and warehouse sorters. It is not rated for freezing storage or high-heat zones near ovens or dryers. The amplified output gives a clean logic-level signal over the full temperature span, so the PLC input sees a solid high or low without false edges.
