Slot sensor for edge detection and position feedback
The Omron EE-SX872A is a through-beam photomicrosensor with a 5 mm sensing slot, designed for object presence, edge counting, and position feedback in automation and light-industrial equipment. Its NPN open-collector output, configured Light-ON, sinks current when the beam is uninterrupted — a standard interface for PLC digital inputs and counter modules. The 5 V supply rail keeps it within the logic-level domain, so it pairs directly with 5 V controllers without a level shifter.
Mounting and wiring constraints
Chassis mount via M3 screws; the wire-lead termination means no connector to mate — strip and terminate at the PLC or terminal block. The 0.035 A switching current covers small relays or logic inputs but won't drive a contactor coil directly; use an interposing relay for loads above 35 mA.
Rated for -25°C to 55°C ambient, so this stays inside a climate-controlled cabinet or indoor machine frame. Not specified for condensation or washdown — keep it out of wet zones unless the enclosure provides the seal.
