Panel-fit note — E3Z-LS81 diffuse reflective sensor

The Omron E3Z-LS81 is a diffuse reflective photoelectric sensor in the E3Z family, delivering a 200 mm sensing distance for part-present detection on conveyors, packaging lines, and material handling stations. The PNP output is selectable between Dark-ON and Light-ON via the wiring configuration, which maps directly to sinking PLC inputs without a pull-up resistor. The red LED at 680 nm is visible during alignment and works reliably on matte or colored targets. IP67 sealing means it handles washdown and dusty cabinet environments without a secondary enclosure.

200 mm sensing distance — what it means for the pick-and-place zone

200 mm diffuse reflective range suits a typical conveyor width or a pick-and-place cell where the target passes within that standoff. Diffuse sensing requires a reflective target; it does not need a separate reflector or emitter-receiver pair, which simplifies mounting.

Frequently asked questions

Will the E3Z-LS81 drop into a panel specified for the E3Z-R86?

Both are E3Z series with the same housing, IP67, cable connection, and 12 VDC supply. The main difference is sensing type: the LS81 is diffuse reflective (200 mm, no reflector needed), while the R86 is retroreflective (100 mm, requires a reflector). Wiring is the same PNP Dark-ON/Light-ON selectable, so it will mechanically and electrically fit the same bracket and connector, but the sensing logic changes — you will need to adjust the target standoff and remove the reflector.
