What the 500 ms response time means on the line
The 500 ms response time is on the slow side — fine for part-present detection on a conveyor or bin-level sensing where the target dwells, but not for high-speed counting or fast-moving objects. If your application needs sub-millisecond reaction, the E3Z-R86 peer hits 1 ms, though it's retroreflective, not diffuse reflective.
Panel fit versus the E3Z-R86
The E3Z-R86 is a retroreflective sensor with a faster 1 ms response and a wider -40°C to 55°C temperature range, but it needs a reflector and has a different optical path. The E3FA-DP11 2M is diffuse reflective — no reflector required — and runs on 10 V versus the E3Z-R86's 12 V supply. They share IP67 sealing and PNP output, but the mounting hole pattern and cable entry differ; a direct drop-in swap without rewiring or re-drilling is unlikely.
Temperature and environment
Rated for -25°C to 55°C operating range, this sensor suits indoor factory-floor conditions and outdoor enclosures in temperate climates. The IP67 seal means it survives hose-down cleaning and dust ingress — common in food packaging, conveyor lines, and material handling.
