48-port PSE controller with 802.3bt — what you're getting
The Microchip PD69210R-022420 is a Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) controller designed to manage up to 48 PoE ports in a managed switch, midspan injector, or industrial PoE switch. It supports the full 802.3af (PoE), 802.3at (PoE+), and 802.3bt standards, meaning it can negotiate power delivery up to 45 W per port — enough to drive 802.3bt Type 3 powered devices such as pan-tilt-zoom cameras, 802.11ax access points, and digital signage displays. The controller itself handles the detection, classification, and power management logic; it does not integrate the internal power MOSFETs (Internal Switch(s): No), so an external FET or PSE driver stage is needed per port.
The 45 W maximum per port is the per-channel power budget the controller can allocate. That is above the 30 W ceiling of 802.3at (PoE+) but below the 60 W / 90 W tiers of 802.3bt Type 3 and Type 4. For a 48-port switch, the total system power budget is 48 × 45 W = 2160 W, which sets the transformer and bulk-capacitor sizing on the PSE backplane. If your design targets 60 W per port for a device like a high-power PTZ camera, this controller will not support it — you need a PSE with the higher 802.3bt power class.
The ROHS3 compliance is current — no exemption-phase-out concern for EU markets.
Package and supply — fits a standard 32-QFN footprint
Housed in a 32-VFQFN with exposed pad, 5×5 mm body (Supplier Device Package: 32-QFN (5x5)). The auxiliary sense pin (Auxiliary Sense: Yes) allows the controller to monitor an auxiliary power source for redundancy or priority power allocation.
