SiP module integrating flash, SRAM, and RF in a compact 48-LFQFN
The ESP32-PICO-V3-02 is a System-in-Package module from Espressif Systems that integrates the ESP32 MCU, 8 MB flash, 2 MB SRAM, and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi/Bluetooth transceiver into a single 48-LFQFN Exposed Pad package. This eliminates the need for external memory and RF matching components, reducing BOM count and PCB area for wireless IoT products.
Wireless protocol and RF performance
Supports 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi at PHY data rates up to 150 Mbps and Bluetooth v4.2 (BR/EDR + BLE) — the dual-protocol stack runs concurrently, so a single module handles both Wi-Fi data streaming and Bluetooth LE beacon scanning without a second radio. Receiver sensitivity of -97 dBm (likely at 1 Mbps DSSS) gives usable range in noisy 2.4 GHz environments; the 19.5 dBm transmit output power provides headroom for regulatory limits (FCC/ETSI typically cap at 20 dBm) and allows the module to punch through walls in smart-home or industrial mesh networks. Current consumption ranges from 111 mA to 117 mA in receive mode and 205 mA to 385 mA during transmit — the wide transmit spread reflects the output power back-off; at 19.5 dBm the module draws near the upper end, so a 500 mA supply rail with adequate decoupling is recommended for burst transmission.
Memory, interfaces, and temperature grade
On-chip 8 MB flash and 2 MB SRAM support application firmware plus OTA update staging without external memory — the flash is sufficient for TCP/IP stacks, TLS, and application code in most IoT use cases. Serial interfaces include ADC, GPIO, I²C, I²S, SDIO, SPI, PWM, and UART, covering sensor, display, audio, and storage peripherals.
Package and board integration notes
The module integrates the RF matching network and antenna port (I-PEX connector); the antenna itself is not included, so a certified external antenna or PCB trace antenna must be added per regulatory approval. Available in Tape & Reel (TR) for automated pick-and-place assembly and Cut Tape (CT) for prototyping — the reel quantity supports volume production without reel changeovers.
