It covers an output range from 1.24 V minimum up to 6 V maximum, set by two external resistors. The shunt architecture sinks current through the cathode to ground, regulating the reference node voltage.
Low minimum operating current — 80 µA cathode current
The TLV431ACLP regulates with a minimum cathode current of 80 µA. This low floor suits battery-powered and low-quiescent-current designs where every microamp matters — the reference does not waste headroom in the bias chain. Maximum output current is 15 mA, which sets the upper bound for the cathode resistor and the load the reference can drive directly. For higher current needs, the TLV431 drives an external pass transistor.
