The TLC5923DAP is a 16-channel constant-current sink LED driver from Texas Instruments, built around a 30 MHz shift register topology. The 16 outputs are internally switched, so no external driver transistors are needed for the LED cathodes — the IC sinks the current directly.
What the 80 mA per channel and 17 V compliance mean for your BOM
80 mA per channel is the constant-current sink rating — each output regulates its own current, so you don't need ballast resistors per LED. The 17 V output compliance means the driver can handle multiple series LEDs per channel; for a typical white LED with a 3.2 V forward drop, you can stack up to five in series before hitting the compliance ceiling. The 30 MHz shift register clock sets the data update rate. At 30 MHz, updating all 16 channels takes roughly 533 ns, which is fast enough for PWM dimming at several kHz without visible flicker.
