What this PLL does on the board
The SN74LV4046AD is a phase-locked loop IC with an integrated VCO, built on the 74LV low-voltage logic family. It accepts CMOS or TTL inputs and drives CMOS or TTL loads, making it a drop-in for mixed-logic designs that need frequency synthesis, clock recovery, or tone decoding. One PLL circuit, three outputs from a single input — the 1:3 ratio means you can fan out the locked clock to separate sections of the board without extra buffers.
Frequency, supply, and temperature — the fit check
Runs up to 38 MHz, which covers most microcontroller clock trees, serial data recovery (e.g., CAN, SPI), and low-speed FSK demodulation. That means it works in an engine bay, a rooftop telecom enclosure, or a factory floor panel — not just a climate-controlled office. No internal divider or multiplier on the feedback path — the loop gain and external RC components set the VCO range. If you need a clean divide-by-N, you add a counter on the output side.
Supplied in a tube; if your pick-and-place needs tape-and-reel, check the reel option at ordering time.
