Quad buffer with 3-state outputs for mixed-voltage buses
The symmetrical 16mA source and sink drive at both output states gives enough margin to fan out to a dozen standard CMOS loads or to drive a short backplane trace.
The 2V to 5.5V supply window means this buffer can sit on a 3.3V rail and still accept 5V-tolerant inputs from a legacy peripheral, or run at 5V for full noise margin in a noisy backplane. The 16mA output current at both high and low levels is the figure to check when calculating fan-out: at 5V, one output can drive about 10 standard LSTTL loads or 30 74LV inputs. If your bus has more than that, plan on buffering in stages or use a higher-drive part like the 74ABT series.
14-SOIC package — footprint and rework
The 14-SOIC (0.209", 5.30mm width) body is a standard JEDEC outline — same footprint as a 14-pin SOIC from any manufacturer. The wide-body variant gives a little more room between pins for routing traces under the part on a dense board. Surface-mount only; no through-hole option.
