6-bit D-type register for bus-interface and control logic
The SN74LS378N is a 6-bit D-type flip-flop from Texas Instruments' 74LS low-power Schottky family, designed for storage and transfer of 6-bit data words in synchronous digital systems. Positive-edge triggered with non-inverted outputs, it captures the data present at the D inputs on each rising clock edge and holds it until the next clock transition, making it suitable for register, buffer, and control-latch applications. The 40 MHz maximum clock frequency and 27 ns propagation delay at 5 V, 15 pF load set the timing budget for data setup and hold — in a 5 V system clocked at 20 MHz, the 27 ns delay leaves roughly 23 ns of the 50 ns cycle for the next stage to settle.
Supply rails and output drive
Output drive capability: 400 µA source, 8 mA sink. The 8 mA sink handles standard TTL fan-out of 10 LS loads, but the 400 µA source limits direct drive of LED indicators or high-impedance loads without a buffer. Quiescent supply current is 22 mA — typical for a 6-bit 74LS register, this is the standing current draw when the clock is static; dynamic current scales with clock frequency and output load.

Housed in a 16-pin DIP with 0.300-inch (7.62 mm) row spacing and through-hole mounting, the SN74LS378N is a legacy through-hole part that mates with standard DIP sockets or solders directly into a PCB.
