What the ratings mean for the BOM
The SN74HC02NS is a quad 2-input NOR gate from the 74HC family, packing four independent gates into a 14-SOIC package. Each gate takes two inputs and outputs the NOR result — useful for combinational logic, pulse shaping, or gating clock signals in a 2V to 6V supply rail. The 5.2mA output drive (both high and low) is enough to fan out to several 74HC-family inputs or drive a small LED through a series resistor. Propagation delay of 15ns at 6V and 50pF load means the gate keeps up with most slow-to-moderate-speed digital buses without timing issues. Quiescent current maxes out at 2 µA, so the chip adds negligible standby draw — useful in battery-powered or always-on logic sections where every microamp counts.
The 14-SOIC package (5.30mm body width, 0.209" pitch) is a standard surface-mount footprint that reflows with common lead-free profiles. The supplier device package is 14-SO, so the land pattern matches SOIC-14 with 1.27mm pin spacing. Supplied in Tube packaging, which means the parts arrive in a rigid plastic stick — fine for hand assembly or small-batch pick-and-place, but for high-volume reels you'd want the tape-and-reel variant.
The gate works in factory-floor controllers, outdoor telecom cabinets, or automotive cabin electronics — anywhere the ambient stays within that band and the supply stays between 2V and 6V.
