What this hex inverter is for
The SN74ALS1004N is a six-channel inverter from TI's 74ALS logic family, packaged in a 14-pin DIP (0.300" body width) for through-hole mounting. Each of the six gates takes one input and delivers a complemented output at the standard TTL logic levels: a low input below 0.8 V yields a high output, and a high input above 2 V yields a low output. The 7 ns propagation delay at 5 V with a 50 pF load makes it a drop-in for bus-oriented signal inversion in 5 V digital systems where timing margin is tight.
Output drive and fan-out
Each output can source 15 mA and sink 24 mA. That sink current handles standard TTL loads without exceeding the noise margin.
Pinout and package
The 14-DIP (0.300", 7.62 mm) footprint is industry-standard for through-hole logic. Pin 1 is the first inverter input, pin 2 its output, and so on down the chain; pin 7 is ground, pin 14 is VCC.
