What this 74AHC buffer does on the bus
The SN74AHC16541DLR: Each of the two elements handles eight bits independently, with a common output-enable pin per element that puts the outputs into high-impedance when pulled high. The 3-state outputs let you wire-OR multiple buffers onto the same bus without contention, as long as the enable logic ensures only one bank is active at a time.
Supply voltage range — 2V to 5.5V
The 2V to 5.5V supply range means this buffer works on a 3.3V rail, a 5V rail, or even a 2.5V rail without a level translator. At 3.3V the propagation delay is a few nanoseconds slower than at 5V, but still fast enough for most parallel buses running below 50 MHz. If your system is purely 1.8V logic, the 74AHC family won't switch cleanly — look at the 74AUC or 74LVC series instead.
