Receiver hysteresis and noise margin
The SN65HVD232D: The receiver includes 100 mV of hysteresis, which filters out differential noise on the CAN bus and prevents false triggering from ringing or crosstalk. This is particularly useful in electrically noisy environments like motor drives or automotive body controllers where the bus lines run alongside power cables.
Board integration checklist
Decoupling with a 100 nF ceramic capacitor close to the supply pin is recommended; the supply range is tight at 3V to 3.6V, so a clean 3.3V rail is essential. The transceiver is a single-channel half-duplex device — it cannot transmit and receive simultaneously. The protocol layer (CAN controller) handles bus arbitration; the transceiver simply converts the digital TX/RX signals to the differential CANH/CANL levels.
