What this transceiver does on the bus
10 Mbps and 50 mV hysteresis — what they mean on a real cable
At 10 Mbps the SN65HVD1787P can handle a 100-meter cable run with proper termination, though edge rates will start to show reflections beyond that. The 50 mV of receiver hysteresis gives you about 200 mV of noise margin on a standard 5 V differential bus — enough to reject coupled noise from nearby motor drives or switching supplies without external filtering.
The through-hole PDIP package suits prototype builds and low-volume production where rework access matters more than board density.
No last-time-buy window or successor part number appears in the official record. For production runs, you will need to source from indep.
