Nine-channel RS-485/422 transceiver for dense multi-drop busses
The Texas Instruments SN65HVD09IDGGREP is a 9-driver, 9-receiver half-duplex transceiver supporting both RS-422 and RS-485 protocols in a single 56-TSSOP package. It packs nine independent transceiver channels onto one IC, which is what you reach for when a backplane, multi-drop sensor network, or industrial control chassis needs more than the usual one or two RS-485 ports without multiplying board area. The 5V supply rail (4.75V to 5.25V) and 45 mV of receiver hysteresis give it the noise margin to handle long cable runs in electrically noisy factory environments.
The 56-TSSOP package (0.65 mm pitch typical for TSSOP) is a fine-pitch surface-mount part. It reflows fine in a production oven, but if you are hand-reworking a board, that pitch means the hot-air station needs a small nozzle and steady hands.
