Half-bridge gate driver for N-channel MOSFETs — what it is and where it fits
The SM74104MA/NOPB is a 2-channel, half-bridge gate driver for N-channel MOSFETs. It takes a non-inverting input and delivers complementary high-side and low-side drive with a bootstrap supply rated to 118 V. The 1.6 A peak source and sink current switches medium-power MOSFETs. Supply range is 9 V to 14 V. Logic thresholds are VIL at 0.8 V, VIH at 2 V.
Temperature range and environment
Rated for junction temperature from -40°C to 125°C, this driver can sit on a motor-drive PCB near a hot heatsink or in an engine-bay ECU without derating.
Switching speed and dead-time consideration
Rise and fall times are both 600 ns typical. The LM5106MM/NOPB has 15 ns rise and 10 ns fall. The 600 ns edge requires dead-time longer than the combined rise-plus-fall window.
Package and mounting
Housed in an 8-pin SOIC (0.154" body width, 3.90 mm width) with surface-mount leads. The 8-SOIC footprint is common — same pad layout as a standard SOIC-8 op-amp or logic gate — so board layout is straightforward. Ships in Tube, not Tape & Reel, which matters if your pick-and-place line is set up for reels only; you will need to transfer to a feeder tray or hand-place for prototypes.
