8-bit I/O expansion for the I²C bus — what the PCA9554PW brings
The NXP PCA9554PW is an 8-bit general-purpose I/O expander that connects to a host controller via the I²C bus (or SMBus) at up to 400 kHz. It provides eight push-pull output or input pins, each capable of sinking 25 mA or sourcing 10 mA, and includes a dedicated interrupt output (active-low) to signal the host when any input state changes.
Lifecycle status — this part is officially Obsolete
NXP has classified the PCA9554PW as Obsolete. For new designs, NXP recommends migrating to a current-production equivalent — the PCA9554PW,118 (same die, same package, RoHS-compliant and active) or the PCA9554D (SOIC package variant). For legacy BOM lines, the PCA9554PW can be sourced through independent distribution on a quoted-to-order basis against an RFQ.
