The NS16C2552TVA/NOPB is a dual-channel UART (DUART) from Texas Instruments, rated for a maximum data rate of 5 Mbps per channel. The supply voltage range of 2.97 V to 5.5 V lets it drop into either a 3.3 V or 5 V serial bus without a level shifter — a practical fit for multi-voltage industrial backplanes or legacy RS-232 ports that still run on 5 V.
16-byte FIFO and integrated IrDA
Each channel carries a 16-byte FIFO, which reduces CPU interrupt load during burst transfers — the processor can service the UART after 16 bytes instead of every byte. On-chip IrDA encoder/decoder eliminates the external logic chip normally needed for infrared serial links, saving about 8 mm x 6 mm of board area versus a discrete solution. Modem control signals (RTS, CTS, DSR, DTR, RI, DCD) and auto flow control are built in, so the part can manage hardware handshake without firmware polling. That matters for RS-232 multi-drop networks where the host must throttle the data stream without dropping characters.
Sourcing and availability
This is a current-production TI part, available through our sourcing desk. We quote firm pricing and lead time against your BOM quantity — no stock-holding claim, no automated price. The ROHS3 compliance is confirmed, so it passes EU material declarations without an exemption letter.
