RS-232 interface in a 16-TSSOP — what you're working with
Obsolete — plan your BOM move now
If you need a pin-compatible drop-in for production continuity, the MAX3232 family has several active siblings; check the FAQ for a direct-replacement candidate.
The 250kbps data rate is the transceiver's switching ceiling — it will reliably pass 115.2 kbps UART traffic with margin, and the full-duplex architecture means you don't waste bus turnaround cycles. The 3V to 5.5V supply range lets it sit on a 3.3V logic rail without a separate level shifter, or plug straight into a legacy 5V backplane.
