Specialized interface with SMBus control for video equipment
The LMH0340SQ/NOPB is a specialized interface IC from Texas Instruments, designed for video equipment applications where an SMBus (2-Wire/I²C) control bus is required for configuration and monitoring. It operates from a dual supply of 2.5V and 3.3V, allowing direct integration into mixed-voltage systems without an extra regulator on the BOM.
Supply rails and control bus
The dual supply voltage range — 2.5V and 3.3V — simplifies power tree design in systems that already carry both rails. The SMBus interface uses the same two-wire protocol as I²C, so existing firmware drivers for I²C peripherals can be adapted with minimal changes. Compared to the LMH0344SQE/NOPB which uses a Serial interface, or the LMH0394SQ/NOPB which uses SPI Serial, the LMH0340SQ/NOPB's SMBus control is the right choice when the system already has an I²C bus available and does not need the higher data rates of SPI.
