Package and field-fit — the TO-46 metal can
The LM35CAH comes in a TO-206AB, TO-46-3 metal can — a hermetically sealed through-hole package that handles condensation better than plastic-molded sensors in humid environments. The three leads are the standard transistor outline: Vout, GND, and Vs. Orientation is marked by the tab; no hot-air station needed, a standard socket or soldering iron works on site.
What 10 mV/°C means for your measurement chain
Output scales linearly at 10 mV per degree Celsius — at 25 °C you read 250 mV, at 100 °C you read 1.0 V. No external scaling resistors or cold-junction compensation needed; a multimeter or ADC input sees a direct temperature voltage. The accuracy is ±0.4 °C typical at 25 °C, ±0.8 °C over the full -40 °C to 110 °C range. Supply range spans 4 V to 30 V, so it runs off a 5 V rail, a 9 V battery, or a 24 V industrial supply without a regulator. Quiescent current is under 60 µA — self-heating stays below 0.1 °C in still air.
