Active boost regulator with a 2.55 A switch

The Texas Instruments LM2700MTX-ADJ/NOPB is a current-mode boost regulator that steps up a 2.2 V to 12 V input to an adjustable output up to 17.5 V, with a 2.55 A integrated switch handling the inductor current.

Dual switching frequency and external diode trade-off

The switching frequency is selectable between 600 kHz and 1.25 MHz — the lower setting reduces switching losses for higher input voltages, while the higher setting shrinks the inductor and output capacitor footprint. Because it lacks a synchronous rectifier, the output diode is external — a Schottky with a low forward voltage and fast recovery keeps efficiency up, especially at the 1.25 MHz setting where reverse-recovery losses would otherwise climb. The 1.26 V minimum output (set by the internal reference) means the part can also serve as a SEPIC or flyback controller with the right external components, not just a plain boost.
