The Texas Instruments LM2576HVS-12 is a SIMPLE SWITCHER® series step-down (buck) switching regulator delivering a fixed 12 V output at up to 3 A from a 4 V to 60 V input rail. The fixed 12 V output eliminates the need for external feedback dividers, simplifying the BOM for point-of-load regulation in motor drives, battery chargers, and distributed power architectures.
The 52 kHz switching frequency affects inductor and capacitor selection. For a 3 A output, choose an inductor with saturation current rating above peak load.
Input voltage range and output configuration
The 4 V to 60 V input range covers 12 V industrial rails with surge margin. The fixed 12 V output and positive configuration suit legacy 12 V bus designs.
The exposed tab on the bottom is the ground plane and the primary thermal path. Without adequate heatsinking, the junction temperature will exceed the 125°C rating at full load. The part is RoHS non-compliant, which may affect procurement for EU-regulated markets.
This means the manufacturer has no immediate plans to discontinue the part, but it is not being actively promoted for new projects. Buyers should qualify a replacement or secure a lifetime buy for committed programs.
