What this FPD-Link LVDS driver does
The DS90C387VJDX/NOPB is an 8-driver FPD-Link LVDS serializer from Texas Instruments, designed to transmit parallel RGB video data over a low-voltage differential pair cable at an aggregate data rate of 4.76 Gbps. The commercial temperature range of -10°C to 70°C suits it for indoor display applications — monitors, projectors, and digital signage — where ambient temperature stays controlled.
Data rate and link budget
At 4.76 Gbps aggregate, each of the eight LVDS pairs carries roughly 595 Mbps. That throughput supports 24-bit color at resolutions up to WUXGA (1920×1200) at 60 Hz with the blanking overhead included. The FPD-Link protocol embeds the clock in the data stream, so no separate clock pair is needed — that saves one twisted pair in the cable assembly and reduces EMI.
Active lifecycle — no redesign pressure
The BOM position is stable for new and sustaining production. It is ROHS3 compliant, which meets the current EU and China RoHS requirements without exemption. No date-code sorting or special handling is needed for compliance.
Package and assembly considerations
The 100-TQFP package has a 14×14 mm body. The exposed pad on the bottom side should be soldered to a ground-plane island on the PCB for thermal relief. The 3V to 3.6V range allows a single 3.3V rail without an extra regulator.
