Motor driver with integrated power stage for 8–38 V rails
The Texas Instruments DRV8800PWP is a fully integrated motor driver combining control logic and a DMOS power stage in a single 16-PowerTSSOP package. It drives brushed DC motors or bipolar stepper motors from an 8 V to 38 V supply rail, with a continuous output current rating of 2.8 A. The parallel interface allows direct connection to a microcontroller's GPIO pins without a serial bus, simplifying the firmware for applications where the motor direction and on/off control are the only commands needed.
Output stage and load compatibility
Two half-bridge outputs can be configured as a full H-bridge for a single brushed DC motor, or as two independent half-bridges driving a bipolar stepper motor. The DMOS output stage keeps the on-resistance low enough that the 2.8 A continuous rating does not require an external heatsink in most PCB layouts — the PowerTSSOP's exposed pad conducts heat to the board's copper plane. The 8 V to 38 V supply and load voltage range covers common industrial and automotive rails: 12 V and 24 V systems are within the window, and the 38 V ceiling provides margin for a 24 V rail that sees transients.
