Quad 2-input NAND with open-drain outputs — the wired-OR workhorse
The CD74HC03M is a 74HC-series quad 2-input NAND gate with open-drain outputs. Each gate sinks 5.2 mA per channel; the high side floats, requiring an external pull-up resistor. Supply range covers 2 V to 6 V, so it sits comfortably in a mixed-voltage BOM. The 17 ns propagation delay at 6 V, 50 pF is fast enough for most control and interface logic but not a contender for high-speed memory address decoding — that is not its job. The full military temperature range (-55°C to 125°C) qualifies it for avionics, downhole instrumentation, and outdoor telecom cabinets where the ambient can swing hard.
Open drain means external pull-up — plan the resistor
Rise time depends on the external pull-up resistor and load capacitance. Quiescent current is 2 µA.
Active production, no end-of-life concern
The CD74HC03M carries an Active lifecycle status and is ROHS3 compliant. No NRND flag or last-time-buy notice exists.
Package and footprint — 14-SOIC, surface-mount only
The part comes in a 14-SOIC package (3.90 mm body width, 0.154" pitch) and is supplied in Tube — not Tape & Reel by default, so if your pick-and-place line expects reeled parts, factor in the tube-to-reel transfer or confirm the distributor can supply it on a reel. The mounting is surface-mount only; no through-hole variant exists in this order code.
