What this NOR gate brings to the board
The CD74AC02E is a quad 2-input NOR gate from TI's 74AC family — four independent gates in a single 14-pin DIP package. It operates over a wide 1.5 V to 5.5 V supply range and is specified across the full military temperature range of –55°C to 125°C, making it a fit for avionics, satellite, or downhole instrumentation where the environment pushes beyond industrial limits. Each gate can source or sink 24 mA, enough to drive a standard TTL load or a small LED indicator directly. The propagation delay is 11.5 ns at 5 V with a 50 pF load, which keeps the timing budget tight for 50–80 MHz clocked logic without needing faster (and more power-hungry) AC or ACT families. Quiescent current is just 4 µA maximum, so the static power contribution in a battery-powered or energy-harvesting design is negligible. The input logic levels are specified relative to the supply rail — low from 0.3 V to 1.65 V, high from 1.2 V to 3.85 V — which means it interprets CMOS-level signals cleanly across the supply range.

Rated from 1.5 V to 5.5 V, this gate can run on a single lithium cell (nominal 3.0 V–3.6 V) or on a regulated 5 V rail. Storage temperature exceeds the operating range — that limit governs handling, not running.
