It runs on a 3V to 18V supply, draws just 1 µA quiescent current, and is rated across the full military temperature range of -55°C to 125°C — which means it handles the thermal swings you see in avionics, downhole tools, or outdoor telecom cabinets without derating.
Supply voltage and logic levels — why the wide range matters
The 3V to 18V supply span lets this gate interface directly with 5V, 12V, or even 15V logic families without a level shifter. Input low threshold is 1.5V to 4V; input high is 3.5V to 11V — so the switching point shifts with VDD, which is standard for 4000B parts. If you're replacing a 74HC or 74HCT gate, check that the input thresholds match your driver's output levels; the CD4023BMT's wider hysteresis can actually clean up a noisy signal that would chatter a faster family.
Speed and drive — what 90 ns propagation delay means
Maximum propagation delay is 90 ns at 15V with a 50 pF load. That's slow by today's standards — a 74LV00 pushes 7.5 ns — but for control logic, power sequencing, or debounce circuits where the signal rate stays under a few MHz, the CD4023BMT is perfectly adequate.
