The CD40102BPW: The supply range of 3 V to 18 V means the decoupling cap can be a single 0.1 µF ceramic near the VDD pin; no need for a split-rail bypass network. Operating temperature spans -55°C to 105°C, so the board's ambient thermal profile — not the part — sets the derating limit. The 16-TSSOP's exposed die pad is not present; standard FR-4 with 1-oz copper handles the thermal load without a thermal via array.
Count rate and timing margin
The 2.4 MHz count rate is the maximum clock input frequency for the synchronous down counter. At 5 V supply the typical propagation delay from clock to output is around 200 ns — budget 400 ns for worst-case across temperature to avoid metastability in the downstream latch. Positive-edge triggered with synchronous timing — the count advances on the rising clock edge, and the asynchronous reset overrides regardless of clock state. This means the reset pin must be debounced externally if driven from a mechanical switch; a 10 kΩ pull-down and 0.1 µF RC filter keeps the reset clean.
The 4000B series is a mature CMOS logic family; the CD40102BPW is a direct pin-for-pin replacement for earlier 4000-series BCD down counters in the same 16-TSSOP footprint. No special moisture sensitivity level (MSL) is stated — standard MSL 1 handling applies.
