Dual 4-input NOR gate for wide-supply logic
It operates across a 3V to 18V supply range, making it compatible with both legacy 5V TTL rails and higher-voltage industrial supplies up to 15V or 18V. The 4000B family is known for its ultra-low quiescent current — 1 µA maximum — which suits battery-backed or always-on logic sections where static power must stay under a microamp. The propagation delay is 90 ns at 15V with a 50 pF load, which is typical for 4000B-series logic at that supply voltage — budget for that in your timing closure if the path runs through multiple gates.
Supply voltage and logic thresholds
The 3V to 18V supply range is the headline feature of the 4000B series. At 5V the input low threshold is 1.5V and the high threshold is 3.5V; at 15V those shift to 4V and 11V respectively. That means the gate can interface directly with 5V CMOS logic without level translation, but at 3.3V the noise margin narrows — verify the input levels against your driver's output swing. The output sources and sinks 3.4 mA at both high and low states, which is enough to drive one or two standard CMOS loads but not a heavy bus.
