Quad 2-input NOR gate with a 3V to 18V supply range
The CD4001UBPW is a quad 2-input NOR gate from the 4000B series, in a 14-TSSOP package. Its 3V to 18V supply range covers everything from a two-cell lithium battery (7.2V nominal) to a 12V industrial rail, and the -55°C to 125°C operating temperature range qualifies it for avionics, satellite, and downhole instrumentation where the environment swings hard. The 1 µA max quiescent current makes it a candidate for always-on logic in battery-backed systems where every microamp is budgeted.
The 3V to 18V supply is the key selection parameter. At 3V it runs from a single coin cell; at 18V it interfaces directly with 15V PLC I/O or automotive signal levels without a level shifter. The -55°C to 125°C range is the full military temperature grade — not commercial (0°C to 70°C) or even industrial (-40°C to 85°C). That means the same part can go into a cold-start engine controller and a hot-side turbine sensor interface without a temperature-derate qualification.
Propagation delay and drive current
Maximum propagation delay is 50 ns at 15V supply with a 50 pF load. That is typical for the 4000B family — slower than a 74HC gate, but the wide supply range and low quiescent current are the trade-off. Output source and sink current are both 3.4 mA, enough to drive a standard CMOS input or a small LED, but not a relay coil directly.
There is no NRND or EOL flag, so it is safe to specify for a new production BOM.
