What this CC1101RGPT transceiver does on the board
The Texas Instruments CC1101RGPT is a single-chip, low-power sub-1 GHz RF transceiver for the 300–348 MHz, 387–464 MHz, and 779–928 MHz ISM bands. It is a TxRx Only device — no embedded microcontroller, so the host system handles protocol, packet handling, and sleep scheduling over the SPI serial interface. The part supports multiple modulation formats including 2FSK, 4FSK, GFSK, MSK, ASK, and OOK, giving the designer flexibility to match the air interface to the link budget and regulatory mask.
Frequency coverage and the 868 MHz question
The 779–928 MHz sub-band cleanly includes the European 868 MHz SRD band and the North American 915 MHz ISM band. So yes, this part works for 868 MHz applications — the hardware covers it natively. The -116 dBm sensitivity at the lower data rates gives usable range for typical indoor links at 868 MHz with the 12 dBm maximum output power.
