Triple-band sub-1 GHz transceiver for ISM links
The Texas Instruments CC1101RGPR is a sub-1 GHz RF transceiver covering three ISM bands: 300–348 MHz, 387–464 MHz, and 779–928 MHz. It supports multiple modulation formats including 2FSK, 4FSK, ASK, GFSK, MSK, and OOK, with a receiver sensitivity of -116 dBm and a maximum output power of 12 dBm.
The three frequency segments cover the major license-free ISM allocations worldwide: 315/433 MHz (Americas, Europe, Asia) and 868/915 MHz (Europe, Americas). A single CC1101RGPR can serve a product line shipping into multiple regulatory regions by selecting the appropriate band in firmware — no hardware change needed. The 600 kbps maximum data rate supports compressed sensor telemetry, firmware OTA, and low-latency command links.
For new designs, this means no forced redesign due to obsolescence in the near term.
The SPI interface uses four pins (CSn, SI, SO, SCLK) plus a general-purpose I/O for data and control. The supply decoupling should follow the reference design: a 100 nF ceramic close to each supply pin and a 1 µF bulk capacitor.
