Charge current and USB compatibility
The BQ25010RHLR is a single-cell Li-ion/polymer linear charger IC with a USB interface, delivering a maximum charge current of 500 mA. The 500 mA ceiling is set by the internal pass transistor's thermal limit in the 20-VQFN package — at full current the junction temperature rise above ambient is roughly 40-50°C/W, so the actual charge current at 85°C ambient may need to be reduced via the programmable current-setting resistor. The USB interface integrates the power switch and current-limiting circuitry, so it draws directly from a standard 5V USB port without an external MOSFET — the IC handles the enumeration and current negotiation internally.
Temperature range and fault protection
Operating temperature spans -40°C to 125°C junction, which covers automotive cabin and industrial enclosure ambient without derating. The only listed fault protection is over-temperature shutdown — the die temp sensor trips the charger off at roughly 150°C typical.
Package and thermal management
Without a sufficient copper area on the bottom layer, the junction temperature will exceed the 125°C limit at high ambient. The exposed pad is electrically connected to ground (VSS); the PCB layout should use multiple vias under the pad to spread heat to the inner and bottom layers.
